Prevalence of Cachexia in Cancer Patients

Introduction. Cachexia is a syndrome characterized by the loss of musculoskeletal mass, with or without adipose which cannot be reversed nutritional support. In Chile, there are no data on cachexia in cancer patients that allows for decision making better interdisciplinary management. this study, prevalence inpatient and outpatient was investigated. Methods. An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study carried out. Eighty-six inpatients outpatients were evaluated. evaluated applying miniCASCO tool, its weight bioimpedance, inflammation blood parameters. Comparisons correlations made considering p < 0.05 as threshold statistical significance. Results. Forty met inclusion criteria, 35% men 65% women. all, 27.5% had secondary to cancer. Of total number syndrome, approximately 45.4% mild cachexia, 36.3% severe 18.1% moderate cachexia. addition, significant positive correlation id="M2"> = 0.0150 moderately strong (r = 0.7209) match between final scores stage Conclusion. The cachectic reported first time through application tool. A detected score stages patients. Finally, an early discovery would allow therapeutic interventions aimed at improving prognosis
